Home Work

Kids are more successful in school when parents take an active interest in their Homework — it shows kids that what they do is important.

Of course, helping with Homework shouldn't mean spending hours hunched over a desk. Parents can be supportive by demonstrating study and organization skills, explaining a tricky problem, or just encouraging kids to take a break. And who knows? Parents might even learn a thing or two!

Here are some tips to guide the way:

Know the teachers — and what they're looking for. Attend school events, such as parent-teacher conferences, to meet your child's teachers. Ask about their Homework policies and how you should be involved.

Set up a homework-friendly area. Make sure kids have a well-lit place to complete Homework. Keep supplies — paper, pencils, glue, scissors — within reach.

Schedule a regular study time. Some kids work best in the afternoon, following a snack and play period; others may prefer to wait until after dinner.

Help them make a plan. On heavy Homework nights or when there's an especially hefty assignment to tackle, encourage your child break up the work into manageable chunks. Create a work schedule for the night if necessary — and take time for a 15-minute break every hour, if possible.

Keep distractions to a minimum. This means no TV, loud music, or phone calls. (Occasionally, though, a phone call to a classmate about an assignment can be helpful.)

Make sure kids do their own Homework. They won't learn if they don't think for themselves and make their own mistakes. Parents can make suggestions and help with directions. But it's a kid's job to do the learning.

Be a motivator and monitor. Ask about assignments, quizzes, and tests. Give encouragement, check completed homework, and make yourself available for questions and concerns.

Set a good example. Do your kids ever see you diligently balancing your budget or reading a book? Kids are more likely to follow their parents' examples than their advice.

Homework, or a homework assignment, is a set of tasks assigned to students by their teachers to be completed outside the classroom. Common homework assignments may include required reading, a writing or typing project, mathematical exercises to be completed, information to be reviewed before a test, or other skills to be practiced.

The effects of homework are debated. Generally speaking, homework does not improve academic performance among young children. Homework may improve academic Homework skills among older students, especially lower-achieving students. However, homework also creates stress for students and parents, and reduces the amount of time that students can spend in other activities.

We got talking to a few parents and teachers on how they feel about the latest policy from the education ministry regarding regulating homework for different classes, school bag weight, introducing lockers and lunch at school, and other measures.

The Ministry of Education released a new policy last week that regulates school bag weight and the amount of homework given to school students of all ages. The policy includes giving no homework to students up to class 2, Homework providing lockers and digital weighing machines in schools, making potable water available on the school premises, and disallowing wheeled carrier bags.

Homework regulation

Different classes of students have different homework regulations as per the policy.

Up to class 2: No homework

Class 3 to 5: Maximum of 2 hours of homework a week

Class 6 to 8: Maximum of 1 hour of homework a day

Classes 9 to 12: Maximum of 2 hours of homework a day

The policy suggested that since students till class 2 were too young to sit down and work on their homework at a stretch, “they need to be encouraged in the class to speak about how they spent their evening at home, the games they played, the food they ate, etc.”

Class Development Plan

The purpose of this Class Development Plan (CDP) is to allovw you a space to compile the most important foundational elements of your course in one place. It is intended not only as an assessment platform for our professional development curriculum, but also as a planning document for anyone who is developing a course.  If you are currently in one of our professional development courses (e.g. 1.5- day in-person workshop, six-week Class Development Plan (CDP), then you may not have a specific course in mind for development yet. If that's the case, then we suggest that you select a course that you are likely to teach, or perhaps would like to teach within the context of your department, and use that same hypothetical course as you proceed through the professional development process. If you are in one of these PD courses-and do have a specific course in mind..that's great!  If you are currently in our Class Development Plan (CDP) cohort, then you must fill out this documnent with information related to the specific course you are currently developing as part of that process. However, you are welcome to make a copy of this template and use it to help you plan the major components of any other course you may be developing as well. To use this document, simply fill in each section, one at a time. You are encouraged to copy/paste information from existing documents (syllabi, Canvas sites, etc.) wherever Class Development Plan (CDP) possible. If you are currently in one of our professional development courses (e.g. 1.5- day in-person workshop, six-week Class Development Plan (CDP) online course), then this document will serve as a sequenced assessment that you'll work on throughout the course. Please feel free to turn in the entire document each time, even if most of it is blank (as may be the case early on). As you progress, it will help us to see how later sections build off the earlier ones, so turning in the entire thing each time helps us get a good sense of where you stand. Class Development Plan (CDP) If you are currently in our course development cohort, this CDP will help your assigned Instructional Designer keep up with where you are and what type of support you may need. So please keep it up to date, even though your eventual Canvas site is what will actually undergo quality review at the end.

What is a Classroom Management Plan?

Classroom management is considered one of the foundations of the educational system. It refers to the actions that educators take that create a supportive environment for students and teachers alike. The right Class Development Plan (CDP) provides opportunities for academic, soclal, and emotional learning (Koran & Koran, 2018). A well-managed classroom has three important elements (Popescu, 2014): • Efficient use of time and space. Strategies that empower the students to make good choices instead of controlling their behavior. Effective implementation of instructional strategies. Therefore, educators need to develop a strong dlassroom management plan to ensure that the strategies are laid out and implemented properly. It combines rules, guidelines, layouts, plans, procedures, and more for most scenarios that

ch06is face many challenges and planning to meet these challenges is a vital part of the school's work. These Guidelines have been developed and published to help with this task. The educational needs of our children must act as the principal stimulus for educators to guide all school planning for the welfare of our pupils in the years that lie ahead. I am confident that these Class Development Plan (CDP) Guidelines will contribute substantially to the work of schools in planning for the future and in adapting to change, while still retaining commitment to the values and standards which have been part of primary education in Ireland for decades. The Guidelines are part of a package of supports/resources on school development planning which I am putting in place for all primary and second-level schools. The publication of the Guidelines is timely in the context of the recent Education Act. The Guidelines will help schools to fulfil their duties as outlined in the Act. The aim of the Guidelines is to assist schools in delivering quality in their own educational settings. They will help teachers to look at their own schools, to review what is currently taking place, Class Development Plan (CDP) and to influence and to guide the development of the School Plan. The Guidelines place a particular emphasis on collaboration within the entire school community. I wish to express my gratitude to all who played a part in the preparation Class Development Plan (CDP) and production of these Guidelines. In that regard, I wish to thank especially the representatives of the Irish National Teachers' Organisation, Catholic Primary School Managers Association, National Parents' Ord of Education
