English grammar verb rules :
Shortcut Rule 1 : If the subject is of the third person, singular number (He, She, It) add 'S' or 'es / ies' to the first form of the verb to make it singular number.
· She plays the violin every day.
· He loves his parents
· The dog barks at the people.
· The bird flies in the Sky.
· He does his duty.
Shortcut Rule 2 : The following verbs are not usually used in the continuous form. See / Smell / Feel / Hear / Notice / Recognize / See / Think / Agree / Believe / Consider / Remember / Hope / Understand / Mind / Suppose / Hate / Love / Know / Have / Want / Forgive / Keep / Prevent etc. But they may be used in continuous forms in a particular cases.
- He has a telephone connection
- The flower smells sweet (you can say I am smelling this flower)
Shortcut Rule 3 : The present perfect tense should not be used with adverbs indicating past time. Instead the simple past tense should be used.
- I saw a film last night.
- He left for Hyderabad last week.
Shortcut Rule 4 : The present perfect tense with "For or Since" is used to express an action began at some time in the past and is still continuing up to the time of speaking or just finished.
- I have know him since 1986.
- Our teacher has been sick for the last two days.
Shortcut Rule 5 : The present perfect continuous Tense" is also used for actions began in the past and are still continuing.
- I have been reading this novel since morning.
- They have been going to English classes for the last one month.
Shortcut Rule 6 : When the first action led to the second action immediately The simple Past Tense + Simple Past Tense are used.
· When he opened the gate, they came in.
Shortcut Rule 7 : When the first action completed before the second one started, the Past Perfect Tense for the first finished action and the Simple Past Tense for the Second are used.
The patient had died before the doctor arrived.
Shortcut Rule 8 : After negative sentences, the question tag used should be in an ordinary interrogative form.
- She did not like that book, did she?
- They have not told him the news, Have they?
Shortcut Rule 9 : After Positive Statements, we use the negative interrogative.
- I am a student, Aren't I?
- Let's play for some Time, Shall We?
Shortcut Rule 10 : When the verb in the principal clause is in a past tense, the verbs in the subordinate clauses are normally in the Past Tense.
- He said that he would pass the examination.
- They told me that they had paid the fees.

As we know, now days, cloze test is asked generally in all competitive exams...So here are the tips for this section....
Cloze test is a very complex sentence completion test. In this test you will be given a paragraph with few blanks, and you need to fill these blanks from the given alternatives. This test is complex and bit typical because it evaluates candidates Vocabulary power and his understanding of the message of the passage or we can say to test the ability to judge the overall meaning of the given passage.
Tips for solve Cloze Tests
- To tackle the cloze test, it is advisable to quickly read through the passage before starting to fill the answers. This gives you a fair idea about the content of the passage and with this background choosing appropriate words from the provided answer choices becomes easier. By skim the passage that is given; you can get a brief idea.
- Read the questions which help to have an idea as you will be focused.
- Be focused Casual reading is not advisable and don't miss any detail while reading.
- Make a note of what you read which might help you while you come back in search of answers. (with practice you will be able to do it in no time)
- If doubt persists re-read the passage to make sure you understand it well before answering.
- Last and most important point understands the Author’s Tone and answers the questions based on author's opinion rather than your opinion. Don't imagine yourself like author and answer unnecessary questions that are not given in passage.
Cloze Tests provide empirical evidence of how easy a text is to read and understand for a specified target audience. They thus measure reading comprehension, and not just a readability score.

Rules of English for competitive exams
Errors spotting Rules
As we know, Spotting errors is the most important topic to crack the competitive exams.So there are some rules,as given below, which will be helpful to you.
1st Rule - There are some nouns which seems to be plural, but always take a singular verb.
For example, Scenery, Information, advice, innings, machinery, stationery, athletics, ethics, furniture, abuse, fuel, poetry, rice, gram, business, economics, physics, mathematics, issue, bidding, mischief, news, repair, classics, gallows etc.
2nd Rule- There is some nouns which seem to be in singular form, but they are used as plural nouns and always take a plural verb.
For example, Cattle, police, company, gentry, vermin, peasantry, artillery, people etc.
3rd Rule - There are some nouns which are always used in plural form and always take a plural verb.
For example, Trousers, spectacles, stockings, scissors, goods, shorts, measles, alms, premises, thanks, tidings, etc.
4th Rule - Some nouns indicate length, measure, money, weight or number. When they are preceded by a numerical value, their form will remain unchanged.
For example, Year, head, pair, foot, dozen, meter, score, hundred, thousand, million.
5th Rule- Collective nouns can be singular or plural. It depends on how they are used in a sentence.
For Example, Jury, orchestra, public, team, committee, government, audience, company, etc...
1) Singular collective nouns - The team has not come yet.
2) Plural collective nouns - The team have new t-shirts this year.
6th Rule- When two singular nouns pointing out the same thing or person, are joined by using 'and', than the verb will be singular,
For example, Bread and butter make a good breakfast.
7th Rule- When anything happened in the past and still continues in the present, the perfect continuous tense form of the verb should be used.
8th Rule- Two or more adjectives showing the qualities of same man or thing, must be in the same degree.
9th Rule - Some adjective always remain form of positive degree i.e. form of adjective which does not show a comparison.
For example, annual, absolute, circular, chief, entire, extreme, right, perfect, round, whole, universe, complete, etc.
